Instructions for the Product of Learning Process
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requires documentation that a student in a teacher education graduate program has completed and successfully presented or defended a Product of Learning. NC DPI requires that the public presentation or defense involve the participation of public school teachers and administrators as well as university faculty. Like the comprehensive examination, the Product of Learning defense/presentation must be completed at least 14 calendar days prior to the date of graduation (graduate bulletin p. 37).
To simplify the process of documenting completion of the Product of Learning, and to expedite graduation audit, the Graduate School has developed the Product of Learning Report Form.
The form must be completed and signed by the appropriate individuals for each teacher education graduate student as soon as possible after the public presentation or defense of the Product of Learning.
The completed form must be submitted to the department office for forwarding.
Without the completed and signed form, a graduate student in a teacher education program cannot be cleared for graduation. The completed form is the only way that we can track graduation shortage, and remove those shortages when the student completes the Product of Learning.
