What she does:
- She interned at Actuarial Management Resources, Inc. during high school and college and accepted a full-time position with the firm after graduation. She is planning to complete the actuarial fellowship track.
Math on the job:
- Jenna says that her mathematical background "certainly was necessary to get me in the door. I also feel it gave me a strong foundation to build upon while studying for actuarial exams."
Education:
- She has a bachelor's degree in statistics with a concentration in actuarial science.
- She chose a degree in statistics in order to help her with actuarial exams. As an undergraduate, she appreciated her caring professors, career talks at the math club, and she said: "I think tutoring taught me more than I actually taught others."
Advice for students:
- Jenna recommends, "If you do want to pursue an actuarial career, take the exams seriously. I first attempted to study to pass exams. It is much more efficient to study an extra 100 hours to be as confident as possible of a pass than have to study another 4 months to retake the exam."
