What he does:
- After graduation he worked with GAI consultants in Boone doing material testing, surveying, and site plans. He then applied to the masters program at NC State for structural engineering. Before committing to attend NC State he took some time to consider his options and in the end decided that he would rather pursue the path to become an actuary, so that he could get job experience while attaining the educational requirements through the series of actuarial exams. He is currently working at Aon Consulting and preparing to take the third examination for the Society of Actuaries.
Math on the job:
- Jason says that "without my background in math, understanding and mastering the material on the actuarial exams would be extremely difficult."
Education:
- He received his bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in physics.
- He especially enjoyed and gained valuable experience from participating in the COMAP MCM mathematical modeling contest.
Advice for students:
- Jason says, "start looking into possible career paths as a sophomore. The sooner you know your options the better you will be able to take classes that would be the most beneficial to your long term plans."
